Inspection Year: 2025 [Pack Year 2022]. Every Meal Cold Weather Case is brand new and factory sealed. MCWs have a shelf life of 10+ years when properly stored in a cool, dry environment.

Just Add Water

The main advantages of the Meal Cold Weather (MCW) packs are their long shelf life (10 years) and light weight.
The longevity and lightness of the packs is due to using freeze-dried food.
Unlike conventional MREs, the cold weather version requires the addition of hot water to activate the main course. No flameless heaters are provided in the packs, though there are a few matches in the acessory pack. Trouble is, making fires in a cold weather environment makes you an ideal infared (IR) target.
The rest of the contents are pretty much stanard MRE components.
The outter packaging for these rations are white, to make them easier to identify from other MREs. If you accidently drop your MCW ration in a snow bank, chances are it won't turn up again until the first spring thaw.
Despite any preparation drawbacks, MCWs make an ideal emergency food source that can be stored for years. Just remember to also store bottled water with them.
